Here is a little quilt that I made for a friend of ours who recently adopted a little boy from Guatemala. I did a little research into colors and artwork from Guatemala. I found this fabric in my collection from when I visited Santa Fe, NM. It seemed like a perfect fit for this quilt.
I have really started enjoying machine quilting and did a lot of detail on this quilt and made sure to change my thread colors to match. I typically do one color all over the top so this is a new to me and seems to work so much better.

I have finally finished making a quilt and some pillows for Lillian's bedroom. I think I am in the "nesting" phase of my pregnancy. I am trying to make stuff for every room to make it more comfortable with quilts, pillows and artwork. I have given so much artwork away that I did not have any in my own home till the last few weeks.

I have been working on two very different pieces this week in my studio. The first one is "Soaring Eagle" made for a friend of mine I met in a coaching class. This was my exchange to her for her giving me some coaching last summer. It took me awhile to finish the piece.
The next quilt I have been started a few years ago and am trying to finish. I am unsure of if it is a wall hanging or a bed quilt. I have asked asked my dear Aunt Jann if she would like it.

I have been working for the last week and a half on a study. I have been studying the artwork of Chris Roberts Antineau. I love her style and really want to find a way to get my illustration style more into fabric. My husband has told me that many artists study other artists techniques to better understand them and their different styles.
Here is a photo of the piece I used as inspiration called: Nightbirds
I started by finding my colors and asking my daughter (three) to help me color and draw the birds on a poster board.
Here is my design wall with a photo of the original art quilt, the beginnings of my drawings of birds and a blank piece of black fabric. Time to dive in....

Here is the first bird. I was so happy with how it turned out. I had to just keep going. I didn't even stop to take any more photos after this one till it was done.
The final piece. I learned so much on the piece. I loved drawing the design and coloring it in. I enjoyed playing with the colors and following the original to begin with and then found ways to change the colors to make it more my own. I am amazed at how my hand and drawing style still comes through so clearly in this exercise. I know have these beautiful birds hanging in my kitchen and love it!!

I am so excited now that we know we have a little girl on the way. I am in my second trimester and have really started to nest. My first project yesterday was to finally make out bedroom make a little more sense. We were given a very beautiful quilt from Peter's Aunt and my quilt mentor, Nellie. We have used this quilt for years but I have never really gotten other bedding to really go with the quilt. So I pulled out my special collection of fabric and began to use some of my sacred fabric for pillowcases. I then make a matching little throw pillow for the bed too. I did two versions since the top and bottom of the quilt have two very different looks and I do like to mix things up.
This side is: Gotta Create Color
This one is: Swimming in Michigan
So after making these very fun additions to our bedroom, I began to dream for the new little one who is heading our way. Now that I know it is a little girl I am just tickled purple. Here is the top of her quilt that I started late last night and finished up this morning. I will try to quilt it next week on vacation or when I get back.

This week I am working on some new trees. I made on single tree quilt about two summers ago that is above our daughter Lillian's bed. I am making a new art quilt to go over the new baby's quilt that has a few trees on it. Here is the finished quilt for Lilli and some making of photos and the new one for Lucy.
Lilli and Mommy 2 summers ago.
Look how proud she is.
Finished. I love this one so much!
